I can't even remember what Cnico de Mayo is. Wasn't it like Independence Day in Mexico? Or am I terribly mistaken?

Not really, that's Sept. 16. Cinco de Mayo is remembered because the Mexicans beat back French invaders on this day at a decisive battle. It's not that important down in Mexico.
Yet, it's popular in America. I always like going to a good Restaurante Mexicano on Cinco de Mayo. |
